Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

1,10-Phenanthroline Monohydrate 99% AR/ACS (CAS No. 5144-89-8) is the monohydrate of 1,10-phenanthroline, a rigid bidentate nitrogen heteroaromatic ligand. The two ring nitrogens are positioned to chelate metal centres, and its exceptionally well-established complex with Fe²⁺ produces the intensely coloured tris(1,10-phenanthroline)iron(II) species commonly known as ferroin.

The AR/ACS grade is intended for spectrophotometric iron determination, metal-ion complexation and redox-indicator reagent preparation. ACS reagent specifications specifically include suitability for determining iron and suitability as a redox indicator, making the grade particularly relevant to conventional analytical chemistry and ferroin-based systems.

Typical Applications

  • Spectrophotometric determination of Fe(II)
  • Determination of total iron after suitable reduction
  • Preparation of ferroin reagent
  • Redox-indicator preparation
  • Metal–ligand complexation studies
  • Preparation of analytical phenanthroline solutions
  • Coordination-chemistry method development

Common Synonyms

  • 1,10-Phenanthroline monohydrate
  • o-Phenanthroline monohydrate
  • 1,10-Phenanthroline hydrate
  • Orthophenanthroline monohydrate
  • Phenanthroline monohydrate

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed and dry, protecting from uncontrolled moisture exchange, direct light and analytical contamination. Preserve the monohydrate composition and use clean equipment for analytical reagent preparation.
