Product Description

Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

1,2-Dichlorobenzene 99% For HPLC (CAS No. 95-50-1) is a high-boiling chlorinated aromatic solvent containing two adjacent chlorine substituents on a benzene ring. Its solvent characteristics favour the dissolution of certain hydrophobic, aromatic and high-molecular-weight organic materials that exhibit limited solubility in more commonly used chromatographic solvents. The combination of aromatic solvating ability and elevated boiling point makes ortho-dichlorobenzene particularly relevant to specialised liquid chromatographic procedures, including temperature-controlled separations.

The HPLC grade is intended for chromatographic solvent preparation and applications involving difficult-to-dissolve organic compounds and polymeric materials. It is used as a mobile-phase solvent in suitable high-temperature size-exclusion chromatography systems for polymer characterisation, where elevated temperatures maintain sample dissolution during separation. It is also useful in selected liquid chromatographic procedures involving fullerenes and related aromatic materials, for which strong solvent interactions and sample solubility influence chromatographic performance.

Typical Applications

  • Mobile-phase preparation for suitable high-temperature size-exclusion chromatography
  • Chromatographic characterisation of polyethylene and other compatible polymer systems
  • Dissolution of high-molecular-weight polymer samples before chromatographic analysis
  • Preparation of chromatographic samples containing poorly soluble aromatic materials
  • Solvent systems for selected fullerene separation and characterisation procedures
  • Evaluation of solvent-dependent retention in specialised liquid chromatographic methods
  • Preparation and handling of hydrophobic polymer solutions for temperature-controlled chromatography

Common Synonyms

  • o-Dichlorobenzene
  • ortho-Dichlorobenzene
  • 1,2-Dichlorobenzol
  • o-Dichlorobenzol
  • Benzene, 1,2-dichloro-

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Use clean, contamination-free dispensing equipment and reseal promptly after use to preserve solvent composition and minimise the introduction of chromatographically interfering impurities.
