Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

1,2-Dichlorobenzene 99% For Synthesis (CAS No. 95-50-1) is an aromatic organochlorine compound containing two chlorine substituents on adjacent carbon atoms of a benzene ring. Commonly known as ortho-dichlorobenzene, it is a chlorinated aromatic liquid characterised by a relatively high boiling point, limited water solubility and good solvating ability toward various organic compounds. Its chlorinated aromatic structure provides a useful reaction medium for elevated-temperature processes, while its two aryl carbon–chlorine bonds offer potential sites for further functionalisation under suitable reaction conditions.

The Synthesis grade is intended for preparative organic chemistry and laboratory-scale reactions requiring a high-boiling organic reaction medium or an ortho-disubstituted aromatic starting material. It is useful in elevated-temperature organic transformations, including suitable metal-catalysed reactions and reactions involving poorly soluble aromatic substrates. Its adjacent chlorine substituents also provide a structural starting point for the preparation of functionalised benzene derivatives in which the ortho substitution pattern is retained or selectively modified.

Typical Applications

  • High-boiling reaction medium for elevated-temperature organic syntheses
  • Preparation of ortho-substituted aromatic derivatives through suitable functionalisation reactions
  • Solubilisation of poorly soluble aromatic substrates during preparative reactions
  • Reaction medium for selected metal-catalysed carbon–carbon bond-forming transformations
  • Preparation of chlorinated aromatic intermediates for multistep organic synthesis
  • Laboratory-scale reactions involving conjugated organic compounds and aromatic materials
  • Investigation and optimisation of solvent-dependent organic reaction conditions
