Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

1,3-Dichlorobenzene 98% For Synthesis (CAS No. 541-73-1) is a chlorinated aromatic compound containing two chlorine substituents at the 1 and 3 positions of a benzene ring. Known as meta-dichlorobenzene, it is a liquid aromatic dihalide whose substitution pattern differs from the adjacent and opposite arrangements found in the other dichlorobenzene isomers. Its two aryl carbon–chlorine bonds and remaining unsubstituted ring positions provide opportunities for controlled aromatic functionalisation, including electrophilic substitution and appropriate catalyst-assisted transformations.

The Synthesis grade is intended for preparative organic chemistry involving meta-substituted aromatic intermediates and chlorinated benzene derivatives. It is useful as a starting material in selected nitration and other aromatic substitution reactions, as well as transformations in which one or both aryl chlorine positions are functionalised using suitable reaction systems. The meta arrangement also provides a defined structural framework for preparing substituted aromatic compounds and intermediates used in further organic synthesis.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of meta-substituted aromatic intermediates
  • Synthesis of chlorinated nitroaromatic derivatives through controlled nitration
  • Preparation of functionalised aromatic compounds by suitable substitution reactions
  • Catalyst-assisted transformation of aryl carbon–chlorine bonds
  • Preparation of substituted chlorobenzene intermediates for multistep synthesis
  • Laboratory-scale studies involving aromatic substitution and regioselectivity
  • Synthesis of aromatic building blocks retaining the 1,3-substitution pattern

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from excessive heat and direct sunlight. Maintain the container securely sealed after dispensing to minimise evaporation, contamination and changes in reagent composition.
