Product Description

Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

1,4-Dichlorobenzene 99% For Synthesis (CAS No. 106-46-7) is a symmetrical chlorinated aromatic compound containing two chlorine substituents at opposite positions of a benzene ring. Commonly known as para-dichlorobenzene, it forms a crystalline solid at ordinary room temperature and exhibits appreciable volatility through sublimation. Its para-substituted aromatic structure provides two opposing aryl carbon–chlorine bonds that can participate in suitable substitution and catalytic coupling reactions, allowing the compound to function as a building block for linear aromatic structures.

The Synthesis grade is intended for preparative organic chemistry and polymer-related synthesis involving para-substituted aromatic intermediates. One important application is the preparation of polyphenylene sulphide through high-temperature polycondensation with suitable sulphide reagents, producing a polymer containing repeating para-linked phenylene sulphide units. The compound is also used as a starting material for functionalised aromatic derivatives and other synthetic intermediates where a symmetrical 1,4-disubstituted benzene framework is required.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of polyphenylene sulphide through suitable polycondensation reactions
  • Synthesis of symmetrical para-substituted aromatic intermediates
  • Preparation of 1,4-phenylene-containing compounds for organic synthesis
  • Aromatic functionalisation through appropriate substitution reactions
  • Catalyst-assisted carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom bond-forming transformations
  • Preparation of substituted chlorinated aromatic building blocks
  • Laboratory-scale studies of aromatic monomers and polymer-forming reactions

Common Synonyms

  • p-Dichlorobenzene
  • para-Dichlorobenzene
  • 1,4-Dichlorobenzol
  • p-Dichlorobenzol
  • Benzene, 1,4-dichloro-

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Maintain the container securely sealed to minimise sublimation-related material loss and preserve the quality of the crystalline reagent.
