Product Description

Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

Acetone Alcohol Decolouriser for Microscopy is a prepared, multi-component microscopy reagent formulated with acetone and alcohol for controlled decolourisation during differential staining procedures. The product is treated as a formulated reagent rather than a single chemical substance and is therefore listed without a single CAS number.

Its formulation is designed to provide the solvent action required during the decolourisation stage of Gram staining.

Typical Applications

  • Decolourisation of bacterial smears during the Gram staining procedure
  • Removal of weakly retained crystal violet–iodine staining complex before counterstaining
  • Differential microscopic examination of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
  • Routine bacteriology and microbiology laboratory procedures
  • Teaching and demonstration of differential bacterial staining techniques
  • Quality-control assessment of Gram staining procedures
  • Microbiological examination in research, environmental, food, water, and industrial laboratories

Common Synonyms

  • Acetone–Alcohol Decolouriser
  • Acetone–Alcohol Decolorizer
  • Gram’s Decolouriser
  • Gram Stain Decolouriser
  • Gram’s Decolorizing Solution
  • Gram Stain Decolorizer Solution

Storage Conditions

Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, and other ignition sources. Protect the product from excessive temperature exposure and keep the container securely sealed after use to limit solvent evaporation and preserve formulation consistency.
