Product Overview

Acetylene Tetrabromide 98% Extra Pure (CAS No. 79-27-6) is the traditional name for 1,1,2,2-tetrabromoethane, a symmetrical halogenated ethane derivative in which each carbon atom carries two bromine atoms. Its heavily brominated molecular framework gives the compound a distinctive place among aliphatic organohalogen reagents and makes it suitable for specialised laboratory procedures requiring a well-defined brominated liquid medium.

The Extra Pure grade is intended for general laboratory, mineralogical, petrographic, and research work requiring dependable purity and consistent material quality. It is particularly applicable to density-based separation procedures and other specialised laboratory operations in which tetrabromoethane is specified as the working medium.

Typical Applications

  • Heavy-liquid separation of mineral fractions according to density
  • Concentration of heavy minerals from geological and sediment samples
  • Sink–float separation and density-classification studies
  • Preparation of mineral fractions for petrographic examination
  • Specialised microscopy procedures requiring tetrabromoethane
  • Flotation and laboratory separation investigations
  • Geological, mineralogical, and materials-research applications
  • Laboratory studies involving dense halogenated liquid media

Tetrabromoethane has an established history as a heavy-liquid medium for separating low- and high-density mineral fractions and has also been reported in specialised microscopy and flotation applications.
