Agar Agar Powder No. 1 For Bacteriology (CAS No. 9002-18-0) is a natural polysaccharide material obtained from selected species of red algae and composed principally of agarose and agaropectin. When heated in water and subsequently cooled, it forms a firm gel that provides a stable physical matrix for microbiological media. This gelling behaviour, together with its limited contribution to the nutritional composition of the medium, allows nutrients and other functional ingredients to be incorporated according to the requirements of the intended culture formulation.

The Bacteriology grade is intended for the preparation of culture media used in routine bacteriological work. In formulated media, agar functions primarily as the solidifying component, supporting the cultivation, separation, and observation of microorganisms on a defined gel surface. The powdered form facilitates measured incorporation into microbiological media before heating and sterilisation according to the applicable preparation procedure.

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place at room temperature. Protect from moisture, contamination, and excessive heat. Reseal the container promptly after dispensing to prevent moisture uptake and preserve the powder’s suitability for culture-media preparation. Bacteriological agar products are commonly stored at room temperature, preferably at15–25°C.
