Benzene 99.9% GC-HS (CAS No. 71-43-2) is a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon consisting of a six-membered conjugated carbon framework with delocalised π-electron character. Its volatility and relatively low boiling point make benzene readily transferable from a liquid sample into the vapour phase under headspace-equilibration conditions, which is the fundamental analytical principle behind its use in headspace gas chromatography. Benzene is a recognised volatile organic compound and is routinely encountered in chromatographic methods for volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds.
The GC-HS grade is intended specifically for headspace gas-chromatographic workflows where the solvent itself must be suitable for controlled vapour-phase sampling and where volatile background constituents can influence chromatographic evaluation.
