Product Overview

Cadmium Carbonate Extra Pure (CAS No. 513-78-0) is cadmium(II) carbonate, an inorganic carbonate salt also encountered mineralogically as otavite. Its comparatively low aqueous solubility distinguishes it from readily soluble cadmium salts, while reaction with suitable acids converts the carbonate into other cadmium compounds with release of carbon dioxide. On controlled heating, cadmium carbonate serves as a precursor to cadmium oxide.

The Extra Pure grade is intended for preparative inorganic chemistry, thermal-conversion studies and materials research requiring cadmium in a carbonate form.

Typical Applications

  • Precursor for preparation of cadmium oxide by controlled thermal decomposition.
  • Starting material for other cadmium salts through reaction with suitable acids.
  • Preparation and study of cadmium carbonate particles, microcrystals and thin-film phases.
  • Investigation of carbonate decomposition, calcination and oxide-formation pathways.
  • Solid-state and mineralogical studies involving synthetic or naturally analogous otavite.
  • Preparation of cadmium oxide–based experimental materials and composites.

Common Synonyms

  • Cadmium(II) Carbonate
  • Carbonic Acid Cadmium Salt
  • Cadmium Monocarbonate
  • Otavite
  • Cadmium Carbonate

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container in a dry, clean area. Protect from moisture, acidic vapours and contamination to preserve the carbonate composition and supplied solid form.
