Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

Cyclohexanol 99% For Synthesis (CAS No. 108-93-0) is a monocyclic secondary alcohol containing a hydroxyl group attached to a saturated six-membered carbon ring. The hydroxyl-bearing carbon provides a reactive centre for oxidation, elimination, esterification and substitution reactions, allowing cyclohexanol to serve as a precursor to several cyclohexyl derivatives. Its molecular structure makes it a useful substrate for examining the transformation of secondary alcohols into ketones, alkenes and other functionalised cyclic compounds.

The Synthesis grade is intended for preparative organic chemistry and laboratory-scale transformations involving cyclohexanol as a starting material or synthetic intermediate. Controlled oxidation produces cyclohexanone, while acid-catalysed dehydration provides cyclohexene, offering access to different reaction pathways from the same secondary alcohol. Cyclohexanol also participates in esterification and suitable hydroxyl-substitution reactions for the preparation of cyclohexyl esters and other substituted cyclohexane derivatives.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of cyclohexanone through controlled oxidation of cyclohexanol
  • Synthesis of cyclohexene by acid-catalysed dehydration
  • Preparation of cyclohexyl esters through esterification reactions
  • Synthesis of cyclohexyl halides using suitable substitution reagents
  • Preparation of cyclohexyl ether derivatives through appropriate ether-forming reactions
  • Laboratory-scale synthesis of substituted cyclohexane compounds
  • Investigation and optimisation of secondary-alcohol transformations in preparative organic chemistry

Common Synonyms

  • Cyclohexyl Alcohol
  • Cyclohexan-1-ol
  • 1-Cyclohexanol
  • Hydroxycyclohexane
  • Hexahydrophenol
  • Hexalin

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and excessive heat. Keep the container securely sealed when not in use to minimise moisture absorption and preserve the composition of the reagent.
