Product Overview

Cyclohexanol 99.5% AR (CAS No. 108-93-0) is a saturated cycloaliphatic secondary alcohol consisting of a six-membered cyclohexane ring bearing a hydroxyl group. Its structure exhibits the characteristic chemical behaviour of secondary alcohols, including oxidation to the corresponding ketone and reactions involving the hydroxyl functionality. Cyclohexanol has limited solubility in water but dissolves readily in several organic solvents, while its melting point close to ambient temperature permits a transition between crystalline and liquid states under ordinary laboratory conditions.

The AR grade is intended for analytical reagent preparation, conventional wet-chemical investigations and laboratory quality-control procedures requiring cyclohexanol of controlled purity. It is useful in qualitative identification reactions for alcohol functional groups, analytical studies of secondary-alcohol oxidation and determinations based on hydroxyl-group derivatisation. Its defined molecular composition also supports investigations of reaction stoichiometry, oxidation kinetics and physicochemical properties in analytical laboratory work.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of cyclohexanol solutions for conventional analytical investigations
  • Qualitative identification of alcohol functional groups using appropriate chemical reagents
  • Analytical studies of secondary-alcohol oxidation reactions
  • Hydroxyl-group determination by acetylation and subsequent titrimetric analysis
  • Investigation of oxidation kinetics involving cyclohexanol and suitable oxidising agents
  • Wet-chemical studies of alcohol-to-ketone conversion and reaction stoichiometry
  • Laboratory quality-control investigations involving density, refractive index and phase behaviour

Common Synonyms

  • Cyclohexyl Alcohol
  • Cyclohexan-1-ol
  • 1-Cyclohexanol
  • Hydroxycyclohexane
  • Hexahydrophenol
  • Hexalin

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and excessive heat. Minimise exposure to humid air during dispensing and reseal the container promptly to preserve reagent quality.
