Product Overview

Dextrose Anhydrous Extra Pure (CAS No. 50-99-7) is the water-free crystalline form of D-glucose, a naturally occurring monosaccharide belonging to the aldohexose family of carbohydrates. Its molecular structure contains six carbon atoms and multiple hydroxyl groups, with a reducing centre capable of forming an open-chain aldehyde structure in aqueous solution. The equilibrium between its cyclic forms gives rise to mutarotation, while its pronounced water solubility makes it useful for preparing carbohydrate solutions over a broad range of concentrations.

The Extra Pure grade is intended for routine laboratory preparation, general carbohydrate research and experimental investigations involving glucose solutions. It is suitable for preparing aqueous sugar solutions, studying concentration-dependent physical properties and examining the behaviour of reducing carbohydrates under different chemical conditions. Its anhydrous composition provides a defined starting material for laboratory preparations involving glucose concentration, solution density, osmotic behaviour and carbohydrate transformations.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of aqueous glucose solutions for routine laboratory procedures
  • Investigation of glucose solubility and concentration-dependent solution properties
  • Studies of mutarotation and carbohydrate optical activity
  • Preparation of model carbohydrate solutions for osmotic investigations
  • Laboratory studies of glucose crystallisation and dissolution behaviour
  • Investigation of reducing-sugar reactions under different chemical conditions
  • General experimental work involving monosaccharides and carbohydrate transformations

Common Synonyms

  • D-Glucose Anhydrous
  • D-(+)-Glucose Anhydrous
  • Anhydrous Dextrose
  • D-(+)-Glucose
  • Grape Sugar
  • D-Glucopyranose

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and excessive heat. Minimise exposure to humid air during dispensing and reseal promptly to preserve the anhydrous crystalline form and prevent contamination.
