Product Overview

Dextrose Monohydrate AR (CAS No. 77938-63-7) is the crystalline monohydrate of D-glucose, an optically active reducing aldohexose containing one equivalent of water of crystallisation. In aqueous solution, glucose undergoes reversible anomeric interconversion and participates in characteristic carbohydrate reactions arising from its reducing functionality. Its ready solubility and importance as a metabolizable carbon source make it a widely used constituent of defined and complex microbiological media.

The AR grade, suitable for microbiology, is intended for analytical reagent preparation and microbiological procedures requiring controlled glucose quality. It serves as a fermentable carbohydrate and carbon source in culture media for bacteria, yeasts and other suitable microorganisms, supporting studies of microbial growth, carbohydrate utilisation and fermentation. It is also useful in preparing glucose-containing media for metabolic investigations and microbial biochemical tests, where glucose conversion may be evaluated through acid formation or other measurable metabolic products.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of glucose-containing microbiological culture media
  • Use as a fermentable carbon source in bacterial and yeast cultivation
  • Preparation of carbohydrate fermentation test media
  • Microbiological investigations of glucose utilisation and metabolic activity
  • Studies of microbial acid production from carbohydrate fermentation
  • Preparation of growth and fermentation media for suitable microorganisms
  • Laboratory studies of microbial carbohydrate metabolism and substrate utilisation

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from excessive heat, humidity fluctuations and contamination. Use clean, dry dispensing equipment and reseal the container promptly to maintain reagent quality for microbiological media preparation.
