Product Overview

Dextrose Monohydrate Extra Pure (CAS No. 77938-63-7) is the monohydrated crystalline form of D-glucose, a reducing monosaccharide belonging to the aldohexose group of carbohydrates. Each formula unit contains one molecule of water of crystallisation associated with the glucose structure, giving the hydrate a different formula mass from anhydrous dextrose. Upon dissolution in water, glucose molecules participate in the equilibrium between cyclic anomeric forms and a small proportion of the open-chain form, displaying mutarotation and characteristic reducing-sugar behaviour.

The Extra Pure grade is intended for routine laboratory preparation and general experimental work involving aqueous carbohydrate systems. Its defined monohydrate composition supports the preparation of glucose solutions using the appropriate hydrated molecular weight, while its water solubility makes it useful for concentration studies, osmotic investigations and laboratory formulation experiments. Dextrose monohydrate also serves as a carbohydrate starting material in studies of sugar dissolution, crystallisation and solution behaviour.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of aqueous glucose solutions for routine laboratory use
  • Preparation of carbohydrate stock solutions using monohydrate-based quantities
  • Studies of dissolution and solubility of crystalline carbohydrates
  • Investigation of concentration-dependent density and osmotic behaviour
  • Laboratory examination of glucose mutarotation in aqueous systems
  • Studies of crystallisation and hydration behaviour in carbohydrate materials
  • Preparation of model glucose solutions for general laboratory formulations

Common Synonyms

  • D-Glucose Monohydrate
  • D-(+)-Glucose Monohydrate
  • Glucose Monohydrate
  • Dextrose Hydrous
  • D-Glucose Hydrate
  • Glucose Hydrate

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place, protected from excessive heat and fluctuations in humidity. Reseal promptly after dispensing to preserve the hydrated crystalline material and minimise contamination.
