Product Overview

Dichloromethane 99.5% Specially Dried AR (CAS No. 75-09-2) is an analytical-reagent form of methylene chloride processed to reduce the contribution of water introduced through the solvent. Its high organic solvating power and limited aqueous compatibility make the reduced-moisture grade useful in procedures where solvent-borne water could interfere with reactive reagents, alter phase behaviour or reduce the reproducibility of moisture-sensitive transformations.

The Specially Dried AR grade is intended for moisture-sensitive reagent preparation, extraction, reaction work-up and preparative chemistry requiring controlled water content.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of moisture-sensitive analytical reagent solutions.
  • Reaction solvent for water-sensitive organic transformations.
  • Preparation and handling of moisture-sensitive Lewis-acid-mediated, acylation, sulphonylation and related reaction systems where dichloromethane is method-compatible.
  • Extraction procedures in which solvent-borne water could affect phase separation or recovery.
  • Washing and solvent-exchange procedures requiring reduced-moisture dichloromethane.
  • Analytical blank and method-development work requiring specially dried chlorinated solvent.

Common Synonyms

  • Specially Dried Dichloromethane
  • Dry Dichloromethane
  • Dry Methylene Chloride
  • Methylene Chloride
  • Methylene Dichloride
  • Dichloromethane
  • DCM

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container protected from moisture, humid air, excessive heat, evaporation and contamination. Minimise opening, use suitably dry dispensing equipment, and promptly reclose after sampling to preserve the reduced-moisture character and prevent atmospheric water from compromising reagent or reaction performance.
