Product Overview

EDTA Disodium Salt 99% Extra Pure (CAS No. 6381-92-6) is the disodium salt dihydrate of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, an aminopolycarboxylate ligand with nitrogen and carboxylate donor sites capable of coordinating a wide range of metal ions. Its partially neutralised sodium form is readily used to prepare aqueous chelating systems, while the strength and selectivity of the resulting metal complexes are governed by solution pH, metal identity and competing ligands.

The Extra Pure grade is intended for routine laboratory preparation, chemical research and formulation work requiring controlled metal-ion complexation. It is useful for preparing chelating solutions, regulating the availability of dissolved metal ions, producing metal–EDTA complexes and studying coordination equilibria in aqueous systems. Its defined disodium dihydrate identity also supports reproducible preparation of general-purpose laboratory reagents.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of aqueous chelating reagent solutions
  • Sequestration of calcium, magnesium and compatible transition-metal ions
  • Control of trace-metal activity in laboratory formulations
  • Preparation of metal–EDTA complexes for coordination studies
  • Masking of metal ions during preparative chemical procedures
  • Investigation of metal-binding and ligand-exchange equilibria
  • Reduction of unwanted metal-catalysed reactions in research systems

Common Synonyms

  • Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt dihydrate
  • Disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate dihydrate
  • Disodium EDTA dihydrate
  • Disodium edetate dihydrate
  • EDTA disodium salt dihydrate
  • Na₂H₂EDTA dihydrate

Storage Conditions

Store in a tightly closed container and protect from contamination, excessive heat and uncontrolled moisture exchange. Minimise prolonged exposure to humid air to preserve the defined dihydrate form and the supplied reagent condition.
