Product Overview

Iodine Resublimed 98.5% Extra Pure (CAS No. 7553-56-2) is molecular iodine, I₂, supplied after resublimation as a purified elemental halogen reagent. Molecular iodine acts as an electrophilic iodinating species, participates in reversible iodine–iodide/triiodide equilibria and functions as an oxidant in numerous inorganic and organic redox systems.

The Extra Pure grade is intended for general laboratory reagent preparation, synthetic iodination and iodine chemistry research. The resublimed form is suitable for preparation of iodine/iodide solutions, investigation of halogen equilibria and use as an iodine source in compatible preparative reactions.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of iodine and iodine–iodide reagent solutions
  • Iodination of compatible organic substrates
  • Preparation of iodinated intermediates
  • Investigation of iodine–iodide–triiodide equilibria
  • General oxidation–reduction experiments involving iodine
  • Preparation of iodine-containing laboratory formulations
  • Halogen and interhalogen chemistry research

Common Synonyms

  • Iodine
  • Molecular iodine
  • Diiodine
  • Diatomic iodine
  • Sublimed iodine
  • Iodine crystals

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed and protect from direct light, excessive heat and contamination to minimise sublimation and iodine loss. Minimise repeated opening and preserve the material away from conditions that promote volatilisation or compositional change.
