Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

n-Butyl Acetate 99.9% GC-HS (CAS No. 123-86-4) is the n-butyl ester of acetic acid, a neutral aliphatic carboxylic ester characterised by moderate polarity and appreciable volatility. Its ester functionality provides useful solvating behaviour for many organic substances, while its vapour-phase characteristics allow effective transfer into the headspace during gas-chromatographic sampling. n-Butyl acetate is itself a recognised volatile organic compound and an established chromatographic analyte, distinct from the isobutyl, sec-butyl and tert-butyl acetate isomers.

The GC-HS grade is intended for headspace gas-chromatographic work in which volatile background purity and reproducible vapour-phase behaviour are important. n-Butyl acetate is recognised among Class 3 residual solvents in pharmaceutical residual-solvent frameworks and can be evaluated by chromatographic procedures designed for volatile organic impurities. This grade is particularly relevant to GC-HS method development, non-certified working-solution preparation, residual-solvent studies and other headspace applications in which n-butyl acetate is used as an analyte, comparative component or method-specific internal-standard compound.

Typical Applications

  • Headspace GC analysis of n-butyl acetate as a volatile organic compound in pharmaceutical, chemical and formulation samples.
  • Residual-solvent investigations involving n-butyl acetate as a recognised Class 3 solvent.
  • Preparation of non-certified working and calibration solutions for GC-HS procedures involving n-butyl acetate.
  • GC-HS method development and validation for volatile ester and residual-solvent analysis.
  • Evaluation of headspace equilibration, recovery and chromatographic response for n-butyl acetate in complex sample matrices.
  • Use as a method-specific internal-standard compound in established headspace GC procedures where n-butyl acetate is explicitly prescribed.
  • GC-FID or GC-MS studies involving identification and determination of n-butyl acetate in volatile-organic-component mixtures.

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed and protect the product from excessive heat, contamination and unnecessary exposure during dispensing to minimise evaporation and preserve its composition. Promptly reseal the container after use and maintain clean handling conditions so that volatile contamination or concentration changes do not compromise its suitability for sensitive GC-HS applications.
