Product Overview

Petroleum Ether 100-120°C For Synthesis (CAS No. 8032-32-4) is a relatively high-boiling petroleum hydrocarbon solvent fraction selected to distil in the 100-120°C range. It remains a non-polar complex hydrocarbon mixture rather than a single chemical species, and its lower volatility relative to lighter petroleum ether cuts can be advantageous in extended preparative operations.

The Synthesis grade is intended for organic extraction, reaction processing, washing and other preparative operations requiring a less volatile hydrocarbon medium. Selection of this fraction can reduce rapid solvent loss during room-temperature handling while retaining petroleum-ether-type non-polar solvency.

Typical Applications

  • Preparative non-polar extraction
  • Organic synthesis reaction work-up
  • Extended washing and purification procedures
  • Hydrophobic phase-separation operations
  • Higher-boiling reaction medium in compatible systems
  • Crystallisation and solvent-exchange studies
  • Preparative hydrocarbon solvent research

Common Synonyms

  • Petroleum ether
  • Petroleum benzine
  • Ligroin
  • Benzine
  • Petroleum hydrocarbon fraction

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed and protect from contamination and compositional change. Preserve the specified 100-120°C fraction by preventing mixing with other petroleum solvent grades.
