Product Overview

Potassium Ferricyanide 99% AR/ACS (CAS No. 13746-66-2) is the tripotassium salt of hexacyanoferrate(III), a stable coordination anion that undergoes reversible one-electron reduction to ferrocyanide. Its defined redox response permits use as an oxidising reagent in classical titrimetric, colorimetric and spectrophotometric procedures, while reactions of the hexacyanoferrate system with metal ions provide additional analytical functionality.

The AR/ACS grade is intended for conventional analytical reagent preparation and quality-control procedures requiring controlled ferricyanide chemistry. Appropriate analytical roles include oxidation steps, ferricyanide-based redox measurements, colour reactions and preparation of reagent solutions where the method specifically calls for this complex.

Typical Applications

  • Ferricyanide-based oxidimetric titration procedures.
  • Spectrophotometric methods based on oxidation of suitable analytes by ferricyanide.
  • Ferricyanide reducing-power and oxidation assays used in laboratory research.
  • Preparation of analytical ferricyanide reagent solutions.
  • Redox method verification involving the ferricyanide/ferrocyanide couple.
  • Colour-forming reactions involving iron and hexacyanoferrate chemistry.

Common Synonyms

  • Potassium hexacyanoferrate(III)
  • Tripotassium hexacyanoferrate(III)
  • Red prussiate of potash
  • Potassium hexacyanidoferrate(III)

Storage Conditions

Store well closed and protect from prolonged light and contact with reducing contaminants. Analytical dispensing should minimise cross-contamination so that the ferricyanide/ferrocyanide redox composition is not unintentionally altered.
