Product Overview

Silica Gel 100-200 mesh For Column Chromatography (CAS No. 112926-00-8) is a porous polar silica stationary phase provided in an intermediate 100-200 mesh particle range. Its surface contains silanol groups that interact selectively with polar functional groups, enabling adsorption-based separation when analyte mixtures are passed through a packed column with an appropriate eluent. Differences in adsorption and desorption establish the basis for normal-phase chromatographic selectivity.

The 100-200 mesh form provides a practical balance between bed permeability and chromatographic efficiency for many preparative laboratory columns. Relative to very coarse silica, its smaller particle fraction can support more efficient mass transfer while increasing resistance to solvent flow.

Typical Applications

  • Preparative normal-phase column chromatography.
  • Separation and purification of organic synthesis products.
  • Fractionation of plant extracts and natural-product mixtures.
  • Cleanup of intermediates before recrystallisation or instrumental analysis.
  • Gradient or stepwise elution of compounds differing in polarity.
  • Column-method optimisation requiring an intermediate silica mesh range.

Common Synonyms

  • 100-200 mesh silica gel
  • Column chromatography silica gel
  • Chromatographic silica gel
  • Amorphous silica gel
  • Silica gel

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed and dry so that uncontrolled adsorption of atmospheric water does not change stationary-phase activity. Protect from solvent vapours, oils, dust and chemical contamination capable of modifying the silica surface or adding extractable background.
