Detailed information about the product

Product Overview

tert-Butyl Peroxybenzoate 98% For Synthesis (CAS No. 614-45-9) is an organic peroxyester containing a thermally labile oxygen–oxygen bond between tert-butoxy and benzoyloxy-derived groups. Controlled homolytic cleavage of this bond generates radical species capable of initiating polymerisation, grafting, cross-linking and selected oxidative transformations. Its behaviour is strongly dependent on temperature and protection from contamination.

The Synthesis grade is intended for controlled radical initiation and preparative transformations in which tert-butyl peroxybenzoate is specifically selected as the peroxide source.

Typical Applications

  • Free-radical initiator in polymerisation of styrenic, acrylic and related vinyl monomers.
  • High-temperature curing initiator for unsaturated polyester resin systems.
  • Radical source in polymer grafting and cross-linking studies.
  • Initiator in preparation of polymer coatings and deposited polymer films.
  • Reagent in selected radical benzoyloxylation and oxidative coupling reactions.
  • Oxidative dehydrogenation and radical-addition procedures where tert-butyl peroxybenzoate is method-specified.

Common Synonyms

  • tert-Butyl Perbenzoate
  • t-Butyl Peroxybenzoate
  • t-Butyl Perbenzoate
  • Peroxybenzoic Acid tert-Butyl Ester
  • TBPB
  • tert-Butyl Benzenecarboperoxoate

Storage Conditions

Store in the original tightly closed container at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Protect from direct light, heat, temperature excursions and contamination to preserve peroxide stability and controlled radical-generating performance.
