Detailed information about the product
Product Overview
Tween 20 Extra Pure (CAS No. 9005-64-5), commonly known as polysorbate 20, is a hydrophilic nonionic surfactant based on laurate esters of sorbitol and its anhydrides condensed with approximately 20 moles of ethylene oxide. Its combination of polyoxyethylene chains and a lipophilic fatty-acid ester portion gives the material strong wetting, emulsifying, dispersing and solubilizing properties in aqueous and mixed-phase systems.
The Extra Pure grade is suited to routine laboratory formulation and preparation work where a water-compatible nonionic surface-active agent is required. Its relatively hydrophilic character favours oil-in-water emulsification and helps incorporate hydrophobic materials into aqueous preparations, while its nonionic nature is useful where the introduction of an ionic surfactant is undesirable. Product quality is appropriately characterized through physicochemical parameters such as hydroxyl value, saponification value and density rather than by a single assay percentage.

Storage Conditions
Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place and protect from light and excessive heat. Minimize prolonged exposure to air during storage, as polysorbate 20 can undergo oxidative degradation with formation of peroxide-containing products.
