Product Overview

Universal Indicator Solution (pH 4.0-11.0) is a ready-to-use mixture of acid–base indicators selected so that their overlapping colour-transition ranges provide a progressive visual response to changes in hydrogen-ion concentration. Unlike a single indicator, which normally changes colour over a relatively narrow interval, the combined indicator system permits approximate pH assessment across a substantially broader range. The pH 4.0-11.0 designation refers to the working colour-response range of the indicator solution.

The solution is intended for rapid visual estimation of acidity, neutrality and alkalinity in aqueous laboratory samples within the specified range. After addition to a test solution, the developed colour is compared with the corresponding indicator colour scale to estimate pH. Its broad transition range makes it particularly useful for preliminary pH screening, monitoring acid–base changes, checking laboratory solutions and demonstrating progressive colour changes across acidic, neutral and alkaline conditions.

Typical Applications

  • Approximate visual determination of pH within the range 4.0-11.0
  • Rapid classification of aqueous samples as acidic, near-neutral or alkaline
  • Preliminary pH screening during preparation of laboratory solutions
  • Monitoring progressive pH changes during acid–base adjustment and neutralization
  • Comparative testing of solutions against a universal-indicator colour scale
  • Demonstration and study of acid–base behaviour in laboratory and educational work
  • Routine qualitative pH checks where rapid visual estimation is suitable

Storage Conditions

Store tightly closed in a cool place protected from direct light and excessive heat to preserve the indicator colour response. Keep the container securely closed after use to minimize evaporation and changes in solution composition.
