Product Overview

Water Distilled (CAS No. 7732-18-5) is water purified by a distillation process in which water is vaporised and condensed to separate it from many non-volatile dissolved substances. Distillation can substantially reduce mineral and non-volatile ionic contamination, although the catalogue name alone does not establish sterility, pyrogen status, organic-carbon level or any numerical conductivity specification.

Distilled Water is intended for general laboratory reagent preparation, dilution, washing and aqueous solution chemistry. The distillation process provides water suitable for procedures where reduction of non-volatile mineral and dissolved ionic contamination is technically useful.

Typical Applications

  • Preparation of general laboratory solutions.
  • Dilution of reagents and samples.
  • Washing and rinsing of laboratory apparatus.
  • Preparation of routine buffers and aqueous formulations.
  • General inorganic and analytical laboratory work.
  • Experiments requiring reduced non-volatile mineral contamination.

Common Synonyms

  • Aqua
  • Distilled H₂O
  • Dihydrogen monoxide
  • Dihydrogen oxide
  • Oxidane

Storage Conditions

Keep tightly closed in clean containers to minimise atmospheric, ionic, particulate and microbiological recontamination after distillation. Avoid prolonged storage in contaminated dispensing systems.
